Here's an ink drawing I did awhile back. It's for my youngest brother, so it too, will be flying off to Australia soon. I hope he likes it. It was meant to be reminiscent of Anime. I drew it after visiting an exhibition of animation at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Speaking of the exhibition and trees, you should buy this book:
It's beautiful and sad and gorgeous and happy and I love it with all my heart.

Look Ma! I got stuff done!

Welcome to the inaugural post this blog! I hope you enjoy reading it and checking out what I've been doing. Please, feel free to comment. I always need a kick in the pants to get stuff done so your encouragement (and critiques) will help me move forward in my creative endeavours.

I've been mildly productive, which for a procrastinator of the worst kind, is saying a whole lot. The following are a few things I've managed to bang out over the past little while. Hopefully this will be a continuing trend. Have a look and tell me what you think:

This first painting (acrylic on 6x6 1 1/2 inch deep canvas) was made on Sunday for a swap I'm participating in. I think I'll call her 'Virginia'. Anyway, she'll be winging her way off to Australia soon and I think I might miss her. *sniff*

The second painting (actually, it was painted before the first one, but whatever) was kind of an experiment but I'm pleased with it. There a few imperfections that weren't quite what I wanted, but it's grown on me the more I look at it. She doesn't have a name yet but I'm thinking maybe 'Irene'. I'm open to suggestions though. This was done on a 6x6 1 1/2 inch deep cradled panel. The gesso I used to prep the surface gave it an interesting texture that I like. It can't really be seen in the photo (note to self - work on photography skills) but it almost has a suede look to it. I haven't sealed it yet so that may be lost.

Last, is a card that I whipped up today to send to someone having a baby (in case you couldn't tell!). It's ink and watercolour pencil on watercolour stock, cropped and glued to a pre-made card. There's something Gorey-esque about it that I adore. It's not exactly your traditional baby colours but I'm a non-traditionalist with a side of creepy thrown in.

So there you have it - proof that I can be productive! I'm aiming to get something new done each week so check back.
